In a previous article, we selected the top five web design trends for 2021. And now, we’ll go through five more fascinating trends before rounding up the best web design trends for this year. Whether you’re looking for inspiration for your company’s website or you’re a web designer, these stunning web design trends will impress you.
If you have a WordPress website, you may want to consider using a free WordPress theme for your project. And if you’re going to start from scratch, here are five web design trends that will stand out in 2021 🔻
1. Animation and Illustrative Web Design
Stock photos are becoming outdated, and illustrations are taking their place in web design. It’s not a surprise. Illustrations are cute and amusing and make people happy. Plus, the possibilities are endless. You can implement illustrative animation to your website that tells a story. Or even use micro animations and interactions to enhance the user experience by guiding your visitors through the site. Here’s a great example of an awesome animated web design from Weglot for webflow. With their well-thought-out story through which you go step by step by scrolling and a few micro-interactions, they perfectly reveal their purpose of overcoming language barriers anywhere in the world.
And down below, you can see an example from Dribbble.
Wibbitz was a re-branding project with the implementation of illustrative animations through the design.
2. Motion Web Design
No, it’s not the Disney game Potion Motion. 🧪⚗️ 😄
I understand if you’re unsure about the meaning of this design. The terms motion and animation are often used interchangeably. This is understandable because motion design is, in a way, an animation design without the storytelling part. If you don’t have a story to tell, but you want to create a visually appealing website, you may consider using motion web design.
This captivating website from dg studio, a digital marketing agency, is a perfect example of motion design. Yes, they really put the effort in to create greatness.
And here’s another awesome motion web design from Proto Homes. Because of the frame-by-frame moving image on scroll effect, this is often referred to as a stop motion animation.
Both of these examples have astonishing designs, and I can’t decide which one is my favorite.
Here’s another web design with simpler but smooth motions.
3. Bold Typography
There are countless fonts and font families out there just waiting to be used. And if you’re into this web design trend, choose your font wisely! Try to make it as exclusive and eye-catching as possible.
Here’s an example of a genuinely BOLD web design from The Bold creative studio from New Zealand. And the moving element in the back adds a unique touch to this design. And this minimalistic website from Natural is both eye-catching and relaxing at the same time. It illustrates how a clean web design with bold typography can look so awesome.
4. Colorless Web Designs
As the name implies, colorless web design is a design that is created entirely in black and white. This web design trend is the polar opposite of vibrantly colored websites. Despite the fact that it may appear to be dull, there are numerous fascinating black and white websites.
As an illustration, Genesis, an alchemy restaurant project, has created a non-traditional colorless flat design with subtle motions. What makes this design special is that small detail is applied when selecting the text: a lovely yellow color that adds refreshment.
And down here, you can see a pretty cool colorless web design for a space website 👽
It’s a colorless design with bold typography, illustrative animation elements, and it looks great!

5. 3D Interactive Elements
Last but not least is this trend that uses 3D elements in the designs. More and more businesses are adopting this trend, including the skincare pioneer Estée Lauder. Their website is fantastic because it is very engaging and informative at the same time.
The use of 3D elements adds a unique touch to the design, and although it’s not a new concept, it is still gaining popularity.
When it comes to 3D design, I should also mention this unique website from Campo alle Comete, an Italian winery. It’s fascinating that a winery came up with such a cute concept.
Additionally, we have singled out two of the many fascinating 3D website designs from Dribbble.
With this last captivating trend, we’re wrapping up the top 10 web design trends for 2021. As you might have noticed, you may combine several different trends on a single website, as long as it looks nice.
As Milton Glaser once said: “There are three responses to a piece of design – yes, no, and WOW! Wow is the one to aim for.”
Let your imagination run wild and start creating. 👩💻
